Human Evolution

in life, we all face some drawbacks

at times, we stumble through the cracks

memories come surging like flashbacks

pains reach climax, pains reach climax
awakenings occur through pain

as lessons fall on us like rain

resistance will only add strain

it’s you to blame, it’s you to blame
own your mistakes, decide to change

new perspectives will rearrange

preventing your soul to estrange

healthy exchange, healthy exchange.

I Can Feel You

I can feel you

vibrating spirit
in summer thickness

swollen particles
I breathe volumes

of night’s poetry
words and scents

move adrift
strumming curves

of freckled shoulders
a homely presence

like rhythm in throat
ancestral songs

truths in us
love-brimmed souls

harmonize from afar

I feel you.

My Budding Soul 23/30

watch this garden flourish from my soul
seedlings of love embedded in a hole
that’s where magic begins to germinate
and roots of fortitude strive to navigate
like encircling vines that wrap a pole

nurturing the core is my daily goal
and letting go what’s beyond my control
allowing the self to ultimately elevate this garden flourish

I’ll continue to recover what my demons stole
they tried so hard from keeping me whole
but a soul like mine is not meant to dissipate
stems are strengthened and start to regenerate
to negate everything that’s been a toll this garden flourish.

A Thriving Heart 2/30

as I till the soil of this thriving heart
colors awaken and slather like art
a canvas once darkened, I couldn’t see
the flavors and deeds of authenticity
light gives way to tell them apart

I will attempt new things and order a la carte
and live in the moment, like the words of Eckhardt
this choice of consciousness is to improve me
as I till the soil of this thriving heart

it all takes time but I can always restart
if I transgress by choice that wasn’t so smart
patience and quietude, holding still like a tree
for all that’s revealed, will help set me free
I’ll toil at the core, even the weakest part
as I till the soil of this thriving heart.

Another Dimension 1/30

as I lay to rest and close my eyes
spirit drawls language beyond my eyes

thriving your meek, a feathered touch
organs arouse except sleepy eyes

with milk in my skin that riles the earth
dreams say, I am soil, full brown eyes

our stories breathe life in words unsaid
poetry and sonnets stream light in our eyes

I taste beauty in peaks and valleys
unearthed soul found home in your eyes.

Poised Before You

standing still with scars exposed

with depths unveiled, marred and frail

fingers strum my truths in Braille

nudity bares soul

light sets precedence to cure

fragrance of healing.

[Cherita poetry is a six line narrative poem made up of three separate strophes. In this poem, I used a single line, a rhyming couplet and a haiku (tercet).]
