THE PERFORMER (Haiku)

Standard

you look good on stage
and even sound convincing
self-proclamations

you like the applause
to bow and deceive yourself
comforted — fake smiles

portrayed a stoutness
while secretly battling flames
unable to snuff

struggling, sleepless nights
tell stories under your eyes
insecurities

so you point fingers
to veer attention elsewhere
as tears drip inside

hues of deception
painted in different colors
like make-up, smudge proof

not until it’s owned
dissected for resolution
the mask will remain

tricks are transparent
and left for the unconscious–
the awakened knows.
